MSD supports initiatives to improve access to life-saving medicines in developing as well as developed countries.  Beyond just researching and manufacturing medicines, we seek out and support initiatives that foster disease education, prevention and care, and sustainable access to medicine.

Mectizan Donation Program
Mectizan Donation Program

Through this program, we have provided more than 700 million tablets of MECTIZAN (ivermectin) free of charge to people at risk for onchocerciasis (river blindness) in some of the poorest countries in the world.  This program is the single largest, longest standing, public/private partnership of its kind.

Medical Outreach Program

We donate pharmaceuticals and vaccines to a selected group of qualified, private voluntary organizations for use in the developing world and in support of major disaster relief efforts worldwide.

Access in Developed Countries

We believe that access to medicines should be based on an appropriate balance between physician judgment and treatment guidelines, and should encourage utilization of the most appropriate therapies while discouraging the use of ineffective or inappropriate medicine.
