ARE YOU SUFFERING
FROM BPH?
Symptoms
The symptoms of
abnormal urination associated with the prostate
gland include:
Increased frequency of urination
Excessive urination at night
Urgency
Straining to urinate
Hesitancy
Weak or intermittent stream
A sensation of incomplete emptying
These symptoms
can be caused by an enlargement of the prostate
that constricts the urethra, obstructing the flow
of urine from the bladder to the penis.
Not all men experience
symptoms when the prostate becomes enlarged. It
is important to have your prostate examined as
part of your regular physical examination. If
you experience symptoms, such as difficulty urinating,
a need to urinate frequently, or the feeling that
your bladder has not been emptied after urination,
tell your doctor.
Treating BPH
The first step
in the treatment of BPH is to tell your doctor
about your symptoms. With many options available
that successfully treat BPH, there is no need
to suffer from the disease. While surgery is often
necessary to relieve severe symptoms such as blood
in the urine, bladder stones, or a complete inability
to urinate, patients with mild to moderate symptoms
may benefit most from drug therapy. Depending
on the severity of your symptoms, you and your
doctor can decide what treatment option is best
for you.
