Vaccines

Our work in vaccines focuses on making certain diseases a thing of the past.

Vaccines are one of the greatest public health success stories in history.

Without vaccines, the world would have lost more sons, daughters, moms and grandpas – more future teachers, builders, doctors and inventors – more people than an entire country the size of the U.S.

Experience in vaccines

We've been discovering, developing, and delivering vaccines to help prevent disease around the world for over 100 years.

It is no secret that inventing and developing vaccines is complex, time-intensive, and carries no guarantees.

To keep pace with the ever-evolving disease landscape, we continue to research candidates to address significant unmet needs.

Collaboration and progress in vaccines

Our work in researching and producing vaccines is guided by science and fueled by human needs.

It takes active collaboration by our teams who partner with governments, academic researchers, and non-government organizations around the world.

Programs in vaccines

We engage with the global health community through the MSD-Wellcome Trust Hilleman Laboratories. Inspired by the rich legacy and innovative spirit of our long-time scientist, Dr. Maurice Hilleman, this first-of-its-kind, non-profit, R&D joint venture is focused on creating new vaccines and adapting existing vaccines for low-income countries.

Our advocacy campaigns help address vaccine challenges in the Philippines

Bakuna Muna

Putting vaccines first

For our groundbreaking research in vaccines to succeed, it needs robust vaccination coverage and vaccine confidence.

Through “Bakuna Muna”, MSD in the Philippines informs Filipinos of how vaccination helps save lives and prevents the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases. Through our vaccination campaigns, we target young adolescents (“Sa Aking Paglaki, Walang HPV”) and senior citizens (“Bakunado si Lola at Lola, Iwas Pulmonya”), two of the most vulnerable population groups in the country.

Call the Shots

Calling the shots on children’s health

Over the past decade, childhood immunization coverage in the Philippines has been declining.

Through Call The Shots, MSD in the Philippines aims to empower parents to call the shots on their children’s health through vaccinations. Through this program, we inform parents about vaccines, vaccine-preventable diseases, as well as vaccination options and schedules for their children.

Guard Against HPV

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a viral infection that is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). It is so common that at least 80% of sexually active men and women will get some variety of it at least once in their lifetime, even if they have few sexual partners.

Our Guard against HPV advocacy campaign aims to increase HPV awareness, especially among sexually active adults, as well as adolescents before their exposure to HPV. The campaign emphasizes the urgency of visiting physicians and discussing different options to protect yourself against HPV, such as through vaccine immunization programs.

There are many aspects of our work in vaccines

Sharing our stories is a privilege. Let’s keep inspiring each other until these global health challenges become a thing of the past.

Our commitment to patients is unwavering

As long as there are still patients in hospitals, doctors desperate to add years to the lives of their patients, and a world where treatments aren’t accessible to all, we will be here: fighting with all we have to deliver more, sooner.
